THE SCIENCE BEHIND SUNSHINE SLIPPERS

ELF (Extremely Low Frequencies such as 60hz AC used for appliances) and EMF (Electro-Magnetic Fields which can range from ELF to Microwaves, Cel Phones and beyond) are byproducts of heat generation which can affect the body’s own electrical processes and magnetic fields.

A key factor in the development of Sunshine Slippers was that they had to have no negative impact on the human body. Negative impact can be caused by several things, but when it comes to handling the specific problem of cold toes, feet and/or ankles, a type of heat-conserving footwear that acts like a small tent for each foot, coupled with an insole that generates heat from a DC battery source, was the basis for the design. Of utmost importance was that the slippers and the heat-selector button would have no measurable electrical, magnetic wave effect.

To test our theory, a special piece of test equipment was procured — the TriField® Meter Model 100XE by AlphaLab, Inc. — which measures magnetic, electrical and radio/microwave energy. We decided to put this meter to use for measuring magnetic, electrical energy emanating from a portable electric heater, Sunshine Slippers, and an electric heating pad.

The captions above each of the hi-resolution photographs below detail the parameters of each test; note the resulting readings on the meter (enlarged for clarity):

Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Meter Scale Close-up (top scale: 0-100 milligauss or 0-1000 volts [x10]; middle scale: 0-3 milligauss; bottom scale: .01-1 milliwatt)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heater Off, Meter 8 inches from Heater (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heater On, Meter 8 inches from Heater (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heater On, Meter 10 inches from Heater (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heater On, Meter 12 inches from Heater (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Sunshine Slippers On (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Note: The meter is sitting directly on the slipper less than 2″ from the heating element set on High (red)
Heating pads are another popular means of heating one’s feet or other part of the body. Interestingly, heating pads emit far more ELF EMF than portable heaters, as the following test measurements show:
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heating Pad Off (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heating Pad On Low (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heating Pad On Medium (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heating Pad On High (Magnetic 0-3 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heating Pad On High (Magnetic 0-100 milligauss range)
Sunshine Slippers ELF EMF Test – Heating Pad On High (Electric 1-1000 volts range, top scale multiplied by 10)
Thank you for taking the time to study these test results. From the above, you should now be able to see the differences between various heating technologies and the ELF EMF fields that some products produce.
